Transformation

It is Autumn. Even though the air is still warm and it sure does not feel like November is just around the corner, our limbic system is catching on to the shift in season.
Even though we are more disconnected to nature than ever before, there is something so instinctual in the response we humans have to the cycles of the year.
It seems that we often resist this reaction, as though we are trying to defeat the natural changes that life brings with it.

For some reason most of us simply don’t welcome change easily. There is a sense of loosing control and not knowing what will be next that deeply unsettles our frightful minds.

And yet, i believe, that on a subconscious level we have a sense of knowing that the next phase is necessary, in some way or another, like a natural consequence.
In fact, like with any changes we go through, when we give up resisting them and start surrendering to the current, a trust comes in that gives us a sense of “everything happening just as it is supposed to”. An intrinsic knowing that comes not from the mind, but from the belly, the “hara”.

As the leaves are slowly changing color and falling off the trees, there are mixed feelings in the air. A beautiful time that symbolizes “letting go”. A time where the excitement of the summer can settle and slowly find a place to rest, a time that indicates relaxation and retreat, a transition-time between the excitement of the bright sun and the silent watchfulness of falling snowflakes.

It is a time of transformation. And transformation is usually a bitter-sweet experience. The sun is rising later and setting earlier. There is regret as well as a tenderness in the air.

For me, like in any season change, I find myself baffled again and again by lifes richness and its many, many facets. Every season anew, i am shocked that it has arrived “already”, apprehensive to what this next period will bring with it and excited about stepping into another chapter in the unexpected and suspenseful story of my life.
Thanks to the help of the stars, the earth moving, the sun and moon rising and setting, the reality of life and death and the changing of the seasons, weather we like it or not, life stays stimulating, in movement.
Stagnation only happens if we ignore these factors, because of course, they are happening despite of us, or even in support of us.

I am convinced that we are here to evolve and expand, to outgrow our cocoons and become butterflies. And nature does everything it can to facilitate this process. We just have to let it happen. Be open to its power, trust the process, yield in to it´s higher intelligence.

We have to understand, or better yet, accept that standing still and consistent is not in our nature. We change. Our body changes, our mind changes. We change.
In my experience trying to hold on to something that is clearly changing is very painful and very scary, while if we can let go of trying to stop a process that is already in motion and simply enjoy the ride, living becomes so delightful. Not to say that there is no fear or no pain involved, but surely curiosity and wonder outshine them by miles.

Have a beautiful autumn everyone.
