Intentions

The New Year has begun and it has brought much needed rain, shorter days and a cooler climate. It is a darker time with shorter days, a time of repose and renewal. Winter offers a slower pace in which we are invited to calm down, to expect less of ourselves and to embrace rest and isolation.

The beginning of a new year is also the time to set intentions for the year that lies ahead of us and therefore a beautiful opportunity to take some time to ponder on what an intention actually is and how it differs from a wish, for example.

A wish can arise from a longing, a desire that feels a little out of reach, something we feel we are not able to actually make happen, but render it to grace, to gods good will. Like a seed offered to the wind to go on it’s flight, to hopefully land on soil that is nourishing to root and grow into a reality. We can send off many wishes each year, some may come to flourish, some may travel the winds for some time and some may never find a place to grow.

An intention on the other hand is an active deed of creation. It is very specific and it´s power consists of clarity and direction. In order to set an intention, one must already know that it will be achieved, one must commit to making it happen.

Many intentions evolve around inviting more abundance, self-care and success into our lives. So in order to set a powerful intention in these fields, we must enable ourselves to feel more self love, more self appreciation and to trust our abilities.

We may find that being generous with ourselves is not so easy and when we think of personal success, we may all of a sudden be filled with doubt and worry. We sense a deep underlying fear that we are actually not good enough, not worthy, have not worked hard enough, are not smart enough, are too insignificant, etc.

So, how to find in oneself the permission to be deserving of receiving? Where to find the courage to think big and abundantly? Where in oneself to find the freedom to invest into ourselves, into what makes us happy?

Sometimes it is good to begin by simply honouring ourselves for what we have already achieved. To take the time to go through the past year and take a look at all that we offered, each act of kindness, each generosity, every moment of true freedom we achieved for ourselves and others, each moment of peace.

To reflect on the difficulties we encountered and what we allowed them to teach us, how gracefully we were able to admit we were wrong and how easily we were able to forgive. To admire our strength, our courage, our flexibility, our softness, our dedication, our commitment.

In this process we may find the permission to take it a little further this new year, to be a little more daring, to allow ourselves a little more freedom, a little more rest, a little more success, a little more craziness maybe.

You will know what is possible, recognize what has the power to be an intention and what may feel a little more like a wish, not yet having found its ground to grow on.

Allow yourself to trust your intuition, your gut feeling and commit to it, without hesitation and keep it safe from doubt. Give yourself permission to not second-guess yourself, to rely on a feeling, your feeling.

Maybe this year the intention will be simple, it can sum up to acknowledging yourself and your power, to honouring your truth, a commitment to not stand in your own way.

Let us try to allow us all that has been deprived, take that vacation, book that training, spend this time, take that risk and deserve it all. Because we do, deserve it all.

A very happy and abundant 2018 to all of you!
