Letting go is the hardest Asana

“LETTING GO IS THE HARDEST ASANA” (~ Raashi Khanna)

Why do we have such a hard time to let go of things, situations and people in our lives that no longer serve us – or even hold us back from evolving into the best version of ourselves we can imagine?

If you are just experiencing autumn in your part of the world, today we would like to invite you to take a few moments out of your day and connect to a tree close to your home or work place. Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths and then quietly contemplate the tree for a few minutes. You can sit down in front of the tree if that feels comfortable… See how it naturally just lets go of each leaf when the time has come – with ease and no regrets. It knows that the next spring will come for sure – a new beginning, a fresh start… But if it wouldn’t let go of the old, dry leaves, the new ones couldn’t sprout in a few months.

It’s the same in our lives.

“You cannot pour more water into a full cup without causing a spillage.” (~ Rasheed Ogunlaru)

Sometimes we’re just so full of ourselves that there is no space for anything new, for a long desired change, for that very thing our souls are so much longing for. Yet, most of us have to learn how to let go in a healthy way – and this can be a life long lesson!

If you have a hard time letting go, try this very simple exercise: Form a strong fist with your right hand and imagine that you are holding onto what it is you would like to release. It’s hard, isn’t it?… It costs you quite some energy. Feel into that tension for a few moments… Now take 3 deep breath, and with the 3rd outbreath, gently open your hand and imagine that you are letting go. How does that feel?

There are many more practices that can help you let go. At Cal Reiet we are offering fire rituals regularly, guided by our shaman Katja, where we write down what weighs us down and give it to the fire that transforms it. If you are living close to flowing water, you can also release it into the water – either “physically” written on a paper or even mentally, which works just as well. It can also be a deep experience to spend some minutes in child’s pose and fully surrender to the floor. Breathe deeply and let go of any tension in your body…

“Let it go,

let the sky take it.

Let the water carry it.

Let the earth hold it.

Because you don’t have to anymore.”

(~ Victoria Erickson)

Life isn’t always as complicated as we make it – it can be very simple and easy, too! We hope that we could inspire you to let go a little more every day… One last thought that can be helpful: “Let it all go – see what stays!”

We wish you a beautiful autumn filled with warmth and gratitude – and a few moments of letting go…
